How to Keep Your Flowers Fresh Longer

A fresh bouquet can brighten up a room for one to two weeks with just a few simple steps. Whether you received the flowers as a gift or chose them yourself at Adenia, here are our florist’s tips for enjoying them as long as possible.

Cut the stems at an angle As soon as you receive it, ideally under running water, to maximize water absorption and prevent the stem from curling back on itself. A 45-degree angle increases the surface area in contact with the water.

Change the water every two days and be sure to remove any leaves that are sitting in the water—they decompose quickly and promote the growth of bacteria, the leading cause of premature wilting.

Keep the bouquet away from heat sources (direct sunlight, radiators, electronic devices) and ripe fruit, whose ethylene gas significantly accelerates the aging of the petals.

Trim the stems every three or four days, by a few centimeters, to refresh the cut and boost absorption. Giving the vase a quick cleaning each time you change the water also prevents residue from building up.

If you receive flowers regularly, our flower subscription is a wonderful way to always have a fresh bouquet at home or at the office—we tailor each delivery to the season and your favorite colors.
